Are we willing to give up our social life, or our "cool" status, or our Netflix time, for the life we want? Are we willing to give up something today, so that we will have more tomorrow? Are we disciplined enough to live like no one today, so that we can live and give like no one then? The sacrifices are different for everyone, but we all have to make many in order to have the life we want to live.
I define discipline as: "doing something that we don't like today, so that we can do what we love in the future."
Discipline is hard.
We must get rid of the idea that creating an awesome life is easy. It's not. Throw that out the window, because it will be harder than you ever thought it would be, but so much better than you ever thought it could be.
I don't want to hear someone say that they want an awesome life and then tell me that they’re binge watching House of Cards next weekend.
I don't want to know that you are "always busy" if you're hitting up every party and wasting time on things that don’t matter.
I don't care how epic your “10 year plan” is if you spend 4 hours every day watching cat videos on YouTube and aren’t executing that plan.
Our actions aren't matching up with our words, and we wonder why our lives suck.
We wonder why our dreams aren't happening, when we spend our weekends on Facebook and Instagram.
We wonder where the time has gone after we wake up hating life on Monday.
We wonder why we're stuck doing the same thing every day, month after month, year after year, when we don't take any time to create a vision for our life.
I am what I do. Not what I wish I did, or what I think I do, but what I wake up every day and go to work at. And it's up to me to change that.
I can keep on letting life run me, or I can start running my life. I can make the choice to make every day better than the previous day, or I can just let the day happen however it may. I can work on intentionally crafting the life I desire, or I can decide to just wing it and see what happens. The buck stops with ME.
It's time to wake up. It's time to change. It's time to make life awesome.
I say, why not today?
Practical Next Steps
Shake up your routine today. Do something totally different, totally out of the norm, and maybe slightly crazy. Wake up 2 hours earlier, take a day off to rest (no phone or social media), or journal what you want the next 1, 2, 5, and 10 years to look like. Turn off Netflix for a month and see what happens. Take a sabbatical from social media.
Try something crazy.
